"Oh no! The rancor!"
Sideshow presents the vinyl Rancor™ Designer Vinyl Figure, an officially licensed Star Wars™ collectible based on the exaggerated, storytelling-rich style of artist James Groman.
Measuring 12" tall x 17" wide x 15.25" deep (30.5 cm x 43 cm x 38.7 cm), the Rancor™ Designer Vinyl Figure encapsulates the essence of an iconic movie monster. Its textured, armored brown hide, elongated arms, and oversized talons are staples of both Groman's and the original creature's designs. With a salivating maw, the Rancor roars its displeasure at being chained. But now, the beast is loose — and its articulated head, arms, and wrist shackles allow collectors to showcase its rampage in their display. Fully sculpted and cast in vinyl, this Star Wars statue also comes with a Gamorrean Guard skull, which can either be placed on one of the Rancor's claws or used to enhance the scenery on your shelf.
Brave the pit and bring home your own vinyl Rancor™ Designer Vinyl Figure by Sideshow and Groman today.
Star Wars Rancor Monster Artist Statement
The Star Wars franchise and I have had a long and prosperous history together. When first I saw the original film, Star Wars: A New Hope™ back when I was in high school, I had little idea of how it would eventually impact my professional career as a working artist in the coming years. After graduating college I was hired into the toy industry, eventually becoming a sculptor working on toy and model kits and collectible statues. One of my very first major sculpting jobs was working on the Rancor monster from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi™ vinyl model kit for Ertl collectibles around 1997. This figure garnered quite a reputation, and I obtained many sculpting jobs in the collectibles industry over the next few years. I was even hired as Design Lead on Hasbro's Playskool line of Star Wars pre-school action figures. This eventually led to a couple amazing trips to Skywalker Ranch at Lucasfilm in California, literally a dream come true for any Star Wars fan.
It has always been another dream of mine to work with my good friends at Sideshow, so when they approached me a few years back to concept and design a number of the alien critters from the Star Wars universe, my favorite character the Rancor was on the top of both of our lists. Phil Tippett's design and execution of this character, and its unforgettable presence in the film, has always inspired me. The attention to detail and spectacular realistic textures of bumpy, thorny, toad-skin has helped motivate me to do the same on every character I've ever worked on. Over the years of working in the designer toy space, I have developed a reputation for exaggerated features and storytelling details hidden within my designs. Our Rancor monster is by no means an exception, with his oversized talons and viciously enhanced snaggletooth maw. The design includes wrist-cuff, chain, ear ring, dripping slobber, and a claw-pierced Gamorrean Guard skull clutched in his elongated claws. Together with the incredible crafters at Sideshow, I pushed this design to be as striking, impactful, and memorable as it was to me when I first saw this fantastic beastie all those years ago on the silver screen in that crowded, darkened theater.

Love the mystery boxes I ordered! Too bad I didn't get the Van Gogh Pikachu! Happy for the one who got it, though :) This my second time ordering the Vintage Mystery box and I loved both boxes! Pokejuex is doing a great job with the variety and quality of their items in their mystery boxes. Can't wait to buy my 3rd one!
My son and I were super excited to open that some ascended Heroes, and Poke Juex came through again! Everything packed well, and shipped in great time. We got a couple nice hits too! Highly recommend the poster collection, and Poke Juex!
Had a great experience buying from Poke Jeux. I submitted some cards using their buylist for store credit and the process was straightforward and easy. Once my cards arrived they were quickly converted to credit on my account.
I had some issues choosing my shipping location and the staff were responsive and were able to assist me quickly. The order was shipped out right away after it was purchased and I was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the cards once they arrived!

Overall, it's not a bad product, but it doesn't feel like the quality or thought is there for the price DS wants to charge. At the end of the day it's a simple binder in a cardboard box. The slipcase is good enough in a vacuum, but because it's just thick cardboard it's very likely to be damaged in transit, and will get dents and deformations from regular use if you aren't extremely careful. Which is difficult, by the way, because the (manufacturer recommended) pages and hard interior cover will stick out of the bottom of the binder when held upright and knock into the slipcase as you try to slide it back in. It's also generally not a smooth experience to use - there's too much friction when sliding the binder in and out of the slipcase, and the pages will get caught all the time when you try to flip through. There's no mechanism to hold pages in place like in the smaller sizes, so they will flop around when upright, and they also bend against the metal clasp beneath the rings when laid flat. I was also shocked to find there's no mechanism/button to open the rings, you just have to pull them apart by hand. This is the kind of functionality I can get from binders at my local dollar store, why is something so basic a problem to include in a product 20 times more expensive? I admit these criticisms might seem a little nitpicky, but this is a premium-priced product (remember, no pages included, so the price you pay is for a basic, empty binder in a cardboard box) without any sign of premium quality. Compare this with e.g. the Gamegenic Almanac released alongside MtG's Secrets of Strixhaven (pages included, by the way!) and the difference in quality is stark for not much difference in price. If it came with the pages or was 30-50% of the price this would be a 5 star review for an affordable option with some minor cut corners, but considering the MSRP DS decided on this ends up being an overpriced and mediocre pick in a market full of better options.
